Mostly perennial herbs with trailing stems or lianes, less often erect subshrubs. Leaves pinnately 3(-5)-foliolate; stipels present. Inflorescences axillary, bearing clusters of flowers along a false raceme. Bracts caducous; bracteoles 0. Calyx 2-lipped. Corolla usually blue, mauve or purple. Style with a distinct bulging excentric callus at junction with ovary. Pods dehiscent. Seeds 3-8, flattened. Worldwide: 3 species in tropical and South Africa Malawi: 1 taxon. |
