DOLICHOCHAETE (C.E. Hubb.) J.B. Phipps
Annuals or perennials. Ligule a line of hairs. Inflorescence an open or contracted panicle; spikelets mostly borne in triads with connate pedicels, less often in groups of 2-3 on long unequal free pedicels. Spikelets large, brown, 2-flowered, the lower floret male or barren. Lower lemma 5-7-nerved. Callus of upper floret pungent, conical. Upper lemma usually pubescent, rarely with hair-tufts, 2-lobed, geniculately awned. Worldwide: 22 species in tropical and South Africa, Madagascar and tropical America Malawi: 7 taxa. |
