Notes:	This is a fairly recently described species (Johnson & Murray, 2018). It is possible that the former distribution of Xylopia parviflora (now X. gracilipes) and X. odoratissima has been confused with this species.
Derivation of specific name:	shirensis: after the Shiri Highlands in Malawi where the type specimen was collected.
