Perennial herb with vertical napiform tuber. Stems c.40 cm long, erect, simple or branched,
minutely pubescent. Leaves opposite, sessile, erect, 3–6.5 × 0.1–0.2 cm, linear, margins strongly
revolute, glabrous except on the midrib beneath. Inflorescences extra-axillary, pedunculate.
Peduncles longer at lower nodes, 0.2–4 cm long, minutely pubescent; pedicels 2–5 mm long
minutely but densely pubescent. Calyx lobes c.2 mm long, narrowly triangular, pilose. Corolla
maroon; lobes reflexed, 3–4 × 1.5 mm, lanceolate, acute, outer face sparsely pubescent with soft
white hairs, inner face densely pilose. Gynostegial corona of five dorsiventrally flattened lobes;
basal portion of lobes 0.8–1 × 0.8–1 mm, slightly fleshy and more or less rectangular in outline,
the upper margin ± level with top of staminal column, with a thickened midline extending into
a filiform apical tooth 0.5–2.5 mm long. Follicles and seeds not known. |
