Description:
Suffruticose perennial with 1 to few erect stems from a woody base, 5–60 cm tall; stems glabrous, pubescent or spreading pilose. Leaves ovate, (oblong-)lanceolate or elliptic, 3–10.5 × 0.8–3.7 cm, base cuneate or attenuate, apex acute or obtuse, surfaces glabrous or pubescent to pilose. Inflorescence (sub)terminal and often also in upper axils, strobilate unilateral spikes, 1.5–9 cm long, sessile or peduncle to 7(18) mm long; bracts brown-scarious, often with a green portion at base; sterile bracts ovate, lanceolate or obovate, 9–18 × 2.5–7 mm; fertile bracts similar but 3.5–7.5 mm wide. Calyx brown-scarious in distal half, pale (yellow-)green below; anterior lobes free, subulate to narrowly oblong-elliptic, 11.5–16 × 1.5–3.7 mm, apex obtuse to attenuate; posterior lobe elliptic, lanceolate or oblanceolate, 12–17 × 2.5–7 mm, margins ± strongly inrolled and partially enveloping other lobes. Night-flowering; corolla (14)19–28 mm long, white or cream, with mauve markings on lower lip, throat and limb pubescent externally; tube (8)11–15 mm long; upper lip straight, (4.5)6–8.5 mm long; lower lip (6)8–13 mm long including lobes (3)6.5–10 mm long, palate shortly pubescent on bosses. Capsule 10–12 mm long, glabrous or with few hairs towards apex; seeds ± 3 × 2.5 mm.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: pallescens: rather pale, presumably in reference to the flower colour.
