Description: |
Slender terrestrial herb 12–32 cm tall; tubers globose to ellipsoid, up to 3.5 cm long, woolly. Leaves 4–6 along the stem. Lowermost 1–2 leaves sheath-like, the next 2–3 leaves borne near the stem base but not appressed to the ground, lanceolate, up to 7 cm long, spreading, light green; the upper leaves bract-like. Inflorescence c. 8 cm long, laxly 3–25-flowered. Flowers pale pink, lilac or almost white; bracts erect, lanceolate, 10–15 mm long. Sepals and petals spreading forwards or decurved, joined to each other and lip in basal third. Median sepal oblanceolate, 7–9.5 mm long; lateral sepals slightly shorter and c. 3 mm wide. Petals similar to median sepal but slightly shorter. Lip 7–9 mm long, very convex, wide-mouthed, the apex recurved. Spurs 6–8 mm long, slender, tapering, arched over ovary. |

Notes: | Although the specific name is spelled as rhynchantoides in almost all known literature the original spelling used by Schlechter in the protologue (Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 53: 529, 1915) was rhynchanthoides. This now seems to be the accepted spelling. |
