Description: |
Much-branched shrub or small tree, mostly hairless but with young shoots more or less appressed pubescent (in this variety); older branches greyish, warty with bark often red-brown, fissured and flaky. Leaves elliptic to broadly ovate-elliptic, 1.3–6 cm long, hairless except small pubescent domatia, which may be absent, rarely pubescent beneath and on midrib above; petioles 3–4 mm long; stipules hairless outside outside, densely long hairy inside, 2 mm long, abruptly ending in a narrow point 1–2 mm long. Flowers solitary, or 2–4 together; pedicels rather thick, 3–11 mm long. Calyx tube 1.5 mm long with small broadly triangular teeth, less than 1 mm long. Corolla creamy-white; tube obconic, 5–6 mm long, widening from the base, with a ring of deflexed long hairs inside; lobes oblong, reflexed, about 3–3.5 mm long. Fruit purple-black, c. 8 mm long. |
