Description: |
Erect, bushy perennial up to 2.5 m tall, becoming woody below and growing from a woody rootstock. Leaves opposite, lanceolate to somewhat ovate, mostly 4-20 cm long, sparsely pubescent or almost hairless above, more densely so beneath; margin dentate-serrate with callose-tipped teeth; petiole up to 4 cm long. Capitula numerous in terminal branched heads, subglobose at first but becoming more lax and wider. Florets mauve to purple, 4-7 mm long. Achenes obovoid-oblong, up to 1.8 mm long, 4-5-ribbed or upto 8-ribbed with secondary ribs developed, pale-brown; pappus of few barbellate setae c. 2 mm long, falling quickly. |
