Erect perennial herb 0.3–1.5 m tall; stems usually single, mostly somewhat woody, hairless to sparsely pubescent or densely hairy with short hairs. Leaves in whorls of 3–5, rarely opposite, narrowly to broadly elliptic, elliptic-lanceolate, lanceolate or narrowly ovate, 3.9–13 x 0.9–5.6 cm., mostly hairless, rarely sparsely pubescent or hairy; stipules with 1–5 ciliate setae, 0.5–10 mm long from a short base. Inflorescence of 1–5 clusters, each c. 30-flowered; peduncles 0–7.5 cm long. Calyx hairless to hairy; lobes deltoid to filiform, ciliate. Flowers white, sweet-scented. Corolla tube 3–12 cm long, scarcely dilated at the apex, shortly hairy outside; throat densely hairy with long hairs; lobes linear-oblong to elliptic-lanceolate, 0.8–1.8 cm long, hairy outside, sometimes yellowish. Stamens entirely included. Style exserted 0.3–1.8 cm, densely covered with white papillae; stigma lobes blackish, elliptic, 1–3 mm. long, thickened. Fruit Capsule obovoid-obtriangular, 1–1.5 cm long, , strongly ribbed, pubescent. |
