Description:
Epiphytic herb. Pseudobulbs borne close together on the rhizome, forming mats, more or less globose to ovoid, 10–20 mm high, purple-red, wrinkled. Leaves 2, linear, 35–45 mm long and 4-6 mm wide, grass-like, deciduous in dry season. Peduncle 3.5–5 cm long; rhachis 1.5–2 cm long, up to 16-flowered. Flowers more or less on one side, deep maroon-purple. Bracts 2–4 mm long, about half as long as the flowers. Dorsal sepal ovate, 3–4 mm long; lateral sepals lanceolate, 2–4.2 mm long, curling back. Petals linear, 1–1.5 mm long. Lip 2–3 mm long, able to move, fringed with hairs on the upper half.

Derivation of specific name: rugosibulbum: with wrinkled bulbs.
Habitat: Brachystegia woodland.
