Description:
See var. excelsa for general description details. This variety is distinguished by the narrower leaves (up to 12 cm wide near the base) without prickles on the lower surface, more slender racemes (c. 5 cm in diameter) and shorter flowers (c. 20 mm long). It is found further North in Mozambique in Zambesia and Nampula.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: excelsa: from the Latin, excelsus, meaning tall or high; breviflora: with short flowers.
