Description:
Sticky-glandular, often scrambling shrubby herb up to 3 m tall or more with.Leaves ovate or elliptic, 6-17.5 cm long drawn out into a long apical tip, decurrent into the petiole at the base; margin toothed; petiole up to 4.5 cm long. Flowers in an open terminal pyramidal many-flowered inflorescence up to 22 cm long. Calyx 15-31 mm long; lobes linear-oblong, more or less spathulate. Corolla 38-52 mm long, pale mauve to purple with orange to brown pleated area; midlobe in the lower lip triangular with a reflexed tip; lateral lobes ovate; lobes in upper lip ovate. Capsule 18-25 mm long, glandular all over or just at the apex.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: nyassana: from Malawi (Nyasaland)
Habitat: On wooded rocky hills and slopes and in Brachystegia woodland.
Altitude range: 500 - 1300 m
