Description:
Small creeping or submerged, amphibious herb. Rhizomes 1.5–2.5 cm long in terrestrial plants, 1.5–3.8 cm long when submerged. Leaves , tufted, cylindrical or subulate, 1.5–8 cm long, . Flowers white, blueish beneath. Pedicels variable in length, 5–35 mm long. Calyx c. 1.5 mm long, 5-lobed, lobes triangular. Corolla tube 1.8–2.2 mm. long, lobes 4–5 subcircular, or somewhat oblong, c. 1.5 mm long, minutely hairy towards the throat. Capsule subglobose, 2–2.5 mm in diameter, crowned by the persistent style.

Habitat: In shallow lakes or on lakeside mudflats.
Altitude range: Up to 2350 m

Worldwide distribution: In Africa restricted to high altitude regions; elswhere in Australia, Europe and North America.
