Description:
Prostrate or decumbent perennial or rarely annual herb. Stems several, often somewhat fleshy, reddish purple, glandular hairy. Leaves opposite or in clusters on small lateral shoots, variable in shape, markedly fleshy, subsessile, glandular hairy; margins crenate. Inflorescence a branched panicle. Flowers often one-sided on the inflorescence branches. Bracts elliptic, to ovate-lanceolate, more or less recurved. Corolla purple, mauve or white; upper lip with dark purple dots, 2-4-lobed; lower lip flap or slightly boat-shaped. Stamens sometimes longer than the lower lip.

Habitat: In shallow soil pockets on rocks, often near seasonal streams or seepage areas.
