Description:
Low scrambling annual or short-lived perennial, rooting at the lower nodes. Leaves spirally arranged, more or less broadly ovate-lanceolate, 2-10 long, sparsely pubescent on both surfaces; margin scalloped or toothed. Flowers solitary or in few-flowered clusters, pink or mauve with a deep mauve to red spot near the base of the upper lateral petals. Lower sepal with a spur, 11-18 mm long, filiform, pubescent, curved; dorsal petal, c. 10 × 12 mm, flattened, broadly ovate to almost round, often emarginate at the apex; upper lateral petals obliquely obovate, 9-11 mm long; lower lateral petals, 8-10 mm long, narrowing into a more or less distinct apical ligule.

Habitat: In forest clearings and undergrowth, where it may form colonies in shady, humid places or along water courses.
