Description:
Much-branched annual herb, up to 1 m high or more. All parts with long spreading white hairs. Stems often woody near the base; branches longitudinally ridged or winged. Leaves reflexed; ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 3-9 cm long, base tapering into a winged petiole up to 2.5 cm long; midrib winged beneath; margin serrate with gland-tipped, often reddish teeth. Stipules glandular, dark red. Cymes in axillary, 3-branched umbels, forking many times; primary rays up to 10 cm long. Cyathia subsessile 2.5 × 3.5 mm, with cup-shaped involucres; glands 4, transversely elliptic, yellow to red. Female flowers with densely woolly ovaries. Capsule subglobose c. 7 mm in diameter, shallowly grooved along the sutures, covered in long spreading hairs, borne on a slightly curved woolly pedicel up to 3 mm long.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: crotonoides, resembling a Croton.
Habitat: In open woodland or in disturbed ground, usually on sandy soils.

Worldwide distribution: Botswana, Namibia, Sudan, Ethiopia Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Limpopo, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
