Description:
Epiphytic herb. Leaves 2-8, oblanceolate to obovate, leathery or slightly fleshy. Inflorescences horizontal or pendent up to 30 cm with up to 24 flowers. Flowers white, pink tinged in the spur with the lateral sepals strongly reflexed. Spur usually 6-8 cm long, curved forwards. See A. appendiculata for comparison. This species can be very variable in size. This is apparently not always related to differences in habitat, as smaller and larger plants seem to retain their sizes when grown together in cultivation (La Croix, 1997).
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: mystacidii: like a moustach, presumably referring to the shape of the of the lateral sepals
Habitat: Mostly in riverine forest, but also in evergreen forest and high rainfall woodland.
Altitude range: Up to 1500 m
Flowering time:Mar - May
Worldwide distribution: From Tanzania to South Africa and Eswatini.
