Description:
Perennial herb, mostly up to 35 cm tall, growing from a turbinate vertical rhizomeringed in the middle by stout roots. Leaves 5-12, folded along the length, overlapping at the base, 10-30 cm long and 1-2 cm wide, recurved, densely hairy on the margins and midrib; thinly strigose on the blades. All hairs stellate, silvery or white, sometimes reddish-brown. Inflorescences 1-3, usually appearing with the young leaves, overtopping or equalling the recurved leaves. Flowering stems up to 35 cm long, somewhat flattened, 1-3 mm wide, pubescent on the margins and towards the apex. Flowers 1-6; tepals all similar, elliptic to lanceolate, 6-12 mm long, yellow, white to brownish hairy on the outside. Capsule turbinate, 5-7 mm long, excluding the persistent perianth. Seeds black and glossy.
Notes: The specimen in the images (K. Mutasa 004, K) appears to be a good match with this undescribed but distinct sp. A from Flora Zambesiaca Volume 12 part 3, 2001: 15-16.
