Tufted perennial. Culms 30–100 cm. high, ascending. Leaf laminae 8–30 cm. long, 8–19 mm. wide, broadly linear to narrowly lanceolate. Racemes 2–3, borne on an axis 1–6 cm. long, each raceme 2–11 cm. long, the spikelets on a rhachis 1.5–2 mm. wide, usually a few of them paired though sometimes the second spikelet represented only by a tooth on the pedicel. Spikelets (2.5) 2.8–3.5 mm. long, broadly elliptic to rotund, light brown. Inferior glume present on at least some of the spikelets as a triangular scale up to 1.5 mm. long. Inferior lemma papery, glabrous to pubescent. Superior lemma brown at maturity. |
