Slender and wiry, tufted perennial grass, up to 75 cm; leaf laminas up to 30 cm × 2.5 mm (when flattened), loosely pilose or glabrous, finely pointed. Inflorescence a very loose and open pyramidal panicle, 8–20 cm long. Spikelets 6-9 mm, pale yellow with a purple base with fine bristles on the lemmas, 1–3(5)-nerved; lemmas elliptic to oblong-elliptic, the body 3–3.5 mm long, the lobes acute, 0.5–1 mm long, each with a fine bristle up to 3 mm long; central awn geniculate, 7–16 mm long. |
