Evergreen trees or shrubs. Sepals 5-6. Petals 5-14, usually united at base. Stamens numerous. Fruit a 1-5-locular capsule, splitting from the apex with a persistent axis. Seeds unwinged.Usually pronounced in English as if there was only one l; ca-mee-lia. Worldwide: c. 200 species in Indomalesia and E Asia Malawi: 1 taxon. |
