Description of the genus

Erect or climbing herbs or subshrubs. Leaves pinnately 3-foliolate. Inflorescence of axillary or terminal false-racemes. Bracts, bracteoles and calyx lobes with clavate gland-tipped apices. Calyx 4-5-lobed, the upper lobes often connate; each lobe up to 5-toothed, the teeth gland-tipped or not. Standard obovate, clawed. Vexillary stamen free. Ovary hirsute. Pod oblong, flattened, dehiscent, densely and coarsely appressed-hairy. Seeds red to dark brown.

Worldwide: 4 species in tropical Africa.
