Herbs or small shrubs, often silky or villous. Stipules present; stipels 0. Leaves digitately 3-foliolate. Flowers in terminal or leaf-opposed few-many-flowered racemes, often ± umbellate, rarely solitary. Calyx 2-lipped; 2 upper lobes free or shortly united; 3 lower united into a shortly 3-lobed lip. Corolla yellow; standard without appendages; wings often with rows of crescent-shaped folds between the upper veins. Stamens united into a closed tube. Pod linear-oblong, flattened. Worldwide: 70 species from South Africa to the tropical African highlands, Madagascar, Mediterranean and India Malawi: 6 taxa. |
