Description of the genus

Inflorescence a large plumose panicle. Spikelets 2–7-flowered, the florets well exserted from the glumes, disarticulating above the glumes and between the florets; glumes membranous, lanceolate, unequal; lemmas keeled, scarious-membranous, 3-nerved, long-ciliate on the lateral nerves. Caryopsis linear, subterete.

Worldwide: 2 species in the Old World tropics.

Malawi: 1 taxon.
