Description of the genus

Climbers or lianes. Leaves ± sessile. Flowers in axillary and terminal cymes. Sepals ovate to subcircular. Corolla with short tube; lobes oblong. Corona of 5 simple lobes adnate to staminal column. Anthers 4-locular, with fimbriate membranous appendages. Pollen gathered in 4 small pollinia attached to a soft pale corpuscle. Follicles paired.

Worldwide: c. 100 species in warm regions of the Old World

Malawi: 3 taxa.
