Description

The Peter Smith University of Botswana Herbarium (internationally indexed as PSUB) is a herbarium based at the Okavango Research Institute. The scope of PSUB is regional (northern Botswana), and houses over 80% of specimens collected from the Okavango delta – the World’s 1000th Heritage site.

PSUB primarily houses the legacy collection of Peter A. Smith who lived and worked in and around the Okavango Delta for more than 30 years.

Recent activity

During 2021 we focused on preparing specimen sheets of those species used as Traditional Medicinal Plants in Botswana and particularly those used for the treatment of respiratory symptoms as seen in Covid-19 infection. These herbarium sheets have been digitally scanned and we will enter data from the image into our database (BRAHMS).

In 2022 we have returned to preparing specimen sheets for digital scanning. We are prioritizing the core, legacy collection.
