Description of the genus

Thorny shrubs. Stipules caducous. Leaves simple, entire, serrate or crenate. Flowers in corymbs. Petals 5, white. Stamens numerous. Carpels 5; ovules 2. Styles 5. Fruit red, orange or yellow, with 5 pyrenes.

Worldwide: 9 species in SE Europe and Asia

Malawi: 2 cultivated taxa.
