Description:
|
Erect branched subshrub, 20-200 cm tall. Branches densely pubescent with short simple hairs and longer, stout hairs. Leaves in whorls of 4, 3.5-8.5 mm long, with stout simple hairs. Flowers in 8-16 flowered clusters, terminal on the side branchlets, bracts, pedicels and calyx covered in stout hairs. Corolla ovoid, pink with darker purple tops, 4-7 mm long, minutely pubescent with ciliate margins. Style 2.5-6 mm long, more or less equalling the corolla. |

johnstonii: after Sir Henry (Harry) Hamilton Johnston (1858-1927), British administrator and explorer, who collected flora and fauna specimens in many parts of Africa. His best known discovery likely is the okapi, which he first found. |
